Robin Taylor Kirk, LMFT
With an integration of complimentary approaches, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Ms. Kirk tailors treatment to that which is most helpful for each individual.
Insight into the dynamics that originated and continue to maintain problems is very important, but it is often not enough. Developing the willingness to experience fully a wide range of emotions is one factor that makes change possible and will allow you to feel at ease in your life.
Ms. Kirk has been in the mental health field for 25 years and specializes in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, and Social Anxiety) and Eating Disorders.
Her interest in Eating Disorders began when she was the Student Director of the Weight Control Clinic at San Diego State University. After becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Robin co-owned Summit Eating Disorders Program (now Eating Recovery Center of California) which offered both Intensive Outpatient and Inpatient Programs in Sacramento.
Over the years, it became apparent that many clients also suffered from Anxiety Disorders, and she became very interested in the treatment of anxiety, including OCD. As a result of her interest in ACT, a mindfulness-based treatment approach, and her recognition of the limitations of a singular Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) model of treating OCD, Ms. Kirk developed Sage's Anxiety Treatment Program. This Intensive Outpatient Program was the first in the nation to offer ACT-Based ERP.
Robin is a graduate of the International OCD Foundation Behavioral Training Institute, has received in-depth training in ACT and has participated in a 7-day intensive mindfulness-based stress reduction meditation teacher training program under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr. Saki Santorelli. Robin is a graduate of the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program from the UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center with teachers Jack Kornfield, Ph.D., and Tara Brach, PhD.
Robin presents on the subjects of the use of Mindfulness in psychotherapy, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and ACT. She is an instructor in the Continuing Education program at JFK University.
She provides supervision for psychotherapy interns and consultation for licensed clinicians. Ms. Kirk has served on the boards of the Sacramento Eating Disorders and Outreach Program, Sacramento OCD Foundation, and the Sacramento Valley Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She is also happy to present to local groups on topics related to Anxiety Disorders, Mindfulness and ACT.
